Chief Apostle DR J Y Smith (1933-2016), Founder/Visionary of EXOUSIA MIRACLE TEMPLE INTERNATIONAL,  accepted her call to the ministry in 1970 and began an intercessory prayer group. She was licensed in 1977 by the Apostolic Church of Deliverance, Overseer W. V. Grant, Fort Worth, Texas.  In 1980, she was ordained by Pastor V. Walker, Long Beach, California.  Full time ministry began with the birthing of the vision of HELPS Outreach Ministries, while in San Diego,  California.  

Returning from San Diego to Shreveport in December 1985, the Holy Spirit manifested a miraculous sign when her oldest son, Joseph Michael, was shot in the head and presumed dead, and her youngest son, Alfred Manuel, was comatose, simultaneously.  Joseph was in Shreveport, and Alfred was in San Diego.  Her prayer life and ministry was an offering to the Lord in exchange for the lives of both sons.  She was told Joseph would not live even three (3) days, and Alfred would not/could not be awakened.  With swollen ankles, she remained at Joseph's bedside, praying without ceasing, until God raised him up!   She phoned San Diego to tell Andre', her second oldest son, to put the phone to Alfred's ear.  She said, "Alfred, come out of that coma, in Jesus' name!  Alfred, shake your head, in Jesus' name!"   Minutes later, Andre' came back to the phone and asked,  "Momma, what did you say?  Alfred is now shaking his head!"  More than 30 years later, they both are still alive by the power of the Holy Spirit!

In 1987, and many prayer meetings later, all with signs and wonders, the church was planted in Shreveport, Louisiana.  At which time, Pastor Joseph Sims, Riverside Faith Temple, Riverside, California was appointed Overseer.   July 2011 marked a milestone in this ministry.  The church became EXOUSIA Miracle Temple International, significant of the tenor of this church for many years,  and Chief Apostle Smith's life work.  At least, there are five (5) persons living in the Shreveport area, among others, who have died or been near death, with medical diagnosis that they would not live, and God has used this great woman of faith as a vessel to pray and speak life, again.  Signs and wonders shall follow those who believe.  Are you ready for a miracle?
